Weaving Devanagari geometry into fluid modern silhouettes
Priya Ravishankar's design language bridges traditional handlooms with mathematical structures. Her current residency at the IIFT Bangalore focuses on the symmetry of Devanagari letterforms, translating the visual weight and balance of sacred characters into structural seams and fluid, asymmetric drapes. Working with master weaver cooperatives in Chanderi, Madhya Pradesh, she is developing a series of structured silk outerwear capes that utilize architectural draping techniques to construct organic form around the wearer, proving the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) principle that movement is the ultimate canvas.
