Intelligence is the Foundation.

The Intelligence of Form

At The Original IIFT Bangalore Campus, design is not taught as aesthetics alone. It is taught as a discipline rooted in Indian Knowledge Systems — a 5,000-year conversation between human intention and natural form.

विभूति

Vibhuti

Purity of Intention

Every commission begins with an inquiry into pure intention — the Vedic concept of Vibhuti (sacred abundance), arising from a state of offering.

समत्व

Samatva

Balance of Form

The golden ratio governs every Ritam proportion. Samatva (equanimity and balance) guides our Design Residents toward harmony between tradition and innovation.

संस्कार

Samskara

Refinement Through Process

Three-stage validation by Master Faculty panels. Samskara (refinement of consciousness) demands that every piece pass the scrutiny of institutional wisdom before it enters the world.

यत्र विश्वं भवत्येकनीडम्

"Where the whole world finds its nest" — Atharva Veda 12.1.45

The principle that design is not an act of imposition but of integration — form emerging from function, beauty from truth. This is the foundation upon which every Ritam commission is conceived.

How IKS Governs the Commission Process

01

The Brief

Each Design Resident receives a research brief rooted in an IKS text — Natyashastra, Arthashastra, or Vastu Vidya — as the conceptual foundation for their commission.

02

The Process

The commission is developed through a structured mentorship relationship with a Master Faculty member who specialises in the relevant IKS discipline.

03

The Validation

A three-stage validation panel — technical, aesthetic, and institutional — reviews each piece before it receives its Certificate of Pedigree & Authenticity.
